On my second day, we
all drove to Mt. Hood. On the way we pulled into a small parking lot filled
with cars. We got out and went into Joe’s Donuts. Since I have been on a clean
eating binge, this stop was a game changer. Yes, I got a donut because well,
because I was on vacation. I chose a Pumpkin Rum one…and one bit sold me on
this place. It was one of the best donuts that I ever ate. This little hole in
the wall attracts customers on their way up and back from Mt. Hood. After
eating that donut, I understood why. I still remember the taste of that donut;
long after I ate it. The memory was that powerful and that good!
The ride to Mt. Hood
was beautiful with tall pine trees on both sides of the road and as far as my
eye could see. As we got closer to Mt. Hood, the larger and larger it became.
Despite some of the cloud coverage, I could still see most of the mountain.
Along the mountain, I saw that there was snow on it. Now I understood about the
summer snow-boarding and skiing! But along the ground and up the
pathway…flowers were blooming.
We pulled into a
parking space in front of Timberline Lodge. This famous lodge was built and
furnished by local artisans during the Great Depression. The outside of the
Lodge was the setting for the Jack Nicholson move, The Shining. Of course, I
had to take a few pictures of outside.
After I finished my
photo shoot, we walked up and followed a path that takes hikers up to Mt. Hood.
I took a lot of pictures of Mt. Hood…it was hard not to. As I did, I felt so
insignificant as I looked up at this mountain which has an elevation of 11,249
feet.
taken next to the sign..."Pacific Crest Trail." All
I thought was that Cheryl Strayed had nothing
nothing over me!
