Yucky Things That go into a Toddler's Mouth!

I took my grandson’s to the park, across the street from where I live. I know about kids, having had my own. I also know that no matter what obstacles you place to protect them, they always seem to find a way to overcome them.

If you take them to the Children’s Museum or Science Center or to a Play Area, everything, and I mean everything that they get their hands on, goes right into their mouth…water toys, or sand or even licking whatever can’t be pulled into their mouths with their own hands. Okay, I get it. But someone should have invented or made some sort of sanitizer spray for a toddler’s mouth!

The last straw was when my 1-1/2-years-old grandson walked by my litter box, dropped his apple in it, picked it up, and continued to eat it. I heard my daughter yell…Oh No…Litter and whatever else she said, and that was when I wished for that mouth sanitizer.

Laptop Envy

My friend that I write with on occasion got a new laptop. I of course was envious at how beautiful it looked. I have been struggling with buying a laptop. I’ve had a few in the past and have sold them to my kids.

Lately, with working on a book for the past year, I have been doing my writing by hand and my corrections by hand when I am not home. I have made more work for myself because I have to go back home, put all my writing and corrections on my computer. Sometimes, I let all that work pile up, until I am overwhelmed with what I need to do.

So, I did it – I bought a new HP Laptop and I am in love with it!!!

For the first week, I placed the laptop in my computer room on a chair next to me. All I did was admire it and kept rubbing my hand across the top of the bronzed colored lid.  Then I got it up and running. Slowly, I began to work on it.

Today, I took it on my first outing to the library and used it to write and edit my manuscript. Besides that I love the touch screen, and the looks of my laptop, I feel like what I should feel like…an actual writer!

Help! I'm Blocked out of my iPad!!!

Passwords and codes drive me crazy. Last week, on Facebook, I saw a monkey trying to figure out its password…and except that it was a monkey…it could have been me. When my daughter gave me my new iPad…I had to have a password and a thumbprint to get into it. Finally, after playing around with my thumb, which took on a life of its own, I gave up and said that I didn’t want any stinking thumb identification or password to get into my iPad! I have nothing to hide.

Why did I forgo the password? Simply because I have too many passwords to remember. I have to remember passwords for Apple, iTunes, banking, Ancestry.com, Facebook, Thank you network, Nook account, Amazon account, Comcast, Mary Kay….etc., etc., etc. and more!!!! Despite that I have them written down and try to keep them a secret, eventually the secret is on me! I usually forget them.

But with my new iPad, my daughter and I had to drive to the Apple store in the mall because the iPad locked us out. The Techy in the store was able to reset the iPad and after 30 minutes, we were on our way. I still skipped the thumb recognition and the password, and can use my iPad with ease – the heck with codes. I don’t want to have to go back and have the Tech at the Apple store help me. Besides, I have no secrets to hide! Or maybe I do?

Easter

Almost everyone was at my house, celebrating Easter, participating in an egg hunt, and having dinner. After many trips to the store, buying the Easter food, all those plastic eggs, candies, treats, and cleaning the house, I was ready for Easter.

I decided not to set out plastic eggs for my teenage grandchildren. Instead, I gave them a bag filled with treats and a gift card. Three of my other grandchildren had gone away, so they weren't participating in the egg hunt. I just needed the help of the older grandchildren to hide the eggs for 15 grandchildren. Each grandchild had 13 eggs and a total of 208 colorful eggs were hidden in my back yard!

Thank, God, it didn't rain The grandchildren, under the age of 11, looked for their eggs and put them into their basket or plastic bags. The kids were dressed up and looked as colorful as the Easter eggs that they found. And they found every egg. My mission of making sure everyone had the same amount of eggs was accomplished and the hunt was a success! So was Easter with 35 members of my family, eating and sharing with one another on this special day!

I Finally Get it!

A few lessons that I finally comprehend: Always charge my cellphone and carry it with me at all times. Everyone tells me to do this but I dislike cell phones, I usually can’t find mine, it is never charged, and don’t ask me for my cell number because I don’t know it.

These lessons were learned the other night when I was babysitting for two of my grandsons. After sitting in my son’s house, I was waiting form my grandsons to wake up from their naps. Afterwards, I was going to order pizza to be delivered for supper. Everything went as planned until I needed to use the phone and call in the order.

Me – “Hey, where is the telephone. Do your parents have a telephone here?”
My 4-years-old grandson – “It’s upstairs in Mommy and Daddy’s bedroom.”

I ran upstairs and looked around my son’s bedroom and there was no phone.

Me – “There isn’t any phone upstairs.”
My 4-years- old grandson – “My Mommy has one. My Daddy has one. It’s with them.”

I realized that they have cell phones with them and no land line in the house. I have no cell phone with me and I left my iPad at home too. How was I going to be able to order a pizza?

I packed up the boys and took them to my house, where I ran inside and found my cell phone and took it and the iPad with me back to their house.

The problem was solved. The pizza was ordered. Dinner was tasty and I learned that not everyone has land lines; I need to charge my cell phone, carry it with me, and learn my cell number. Now I just have to remember to all the above.

Will and his Fairy Garden

Image may contain: plant and flower
My grandson, Will, wanted to make a Fairy Garden. So, on Wednesday, I put him into my car along with his brother, Nolan, and we drove to LMS greenhouse to make a Fairy Garden.

Jane, who works at LMS, was ready to help Will. She gave him the basket with soil and let him pick out everything that would go into the Fairy Garden. He chose three plants, marbles, a bench, a rabbit, a glow in the dark dragon egg, and ghosts…yes, ghosts and the more ghosts, the better! He also added stones, gravel, and topped off the garden with sparkly fair dust.

Afterwards, we walked outside and looked at some of the plants and perennials. Then we paid for the Fairy Garden and drove home, with a stop at Kool Cones to celebrate our adventure.

When Will’s mother came to pick up the boys, it was hard to tell who was more excited about the Fairy Garden…Will or his Mom. Let’s just say that it was a toss up!
