One might think that
going to Baldinger’s Candy store is only for kids. But it isn’t! It is a candy
shop that brings back some sweet memories for adults. A lot of the people who
go to Baldinger’s are actually 2nd and 3rd generation ‘kids’
who used to go to the that candy store with their own parents.
The one floor building
is chucked full of candy from by gone days, like Black Jacks, Mary Janes,
Safety Suckers, Blow Pops and more.
Each table is filled
with candy in baskets. There are plastic bags at each table to fill with your selections
and then at the end they are weighed.
There are also choices
of candies like Pez and an assortment of Pez dispensers. One can also find a
rainbow of jelly beans in all sorts of flavors.
The baskets that are
provided in the beginning are easy to fill up and help the shoppers to carry
all their selections. But, it is the memories that are priceless. Let’s just
say that my grandchildren went crazy with excitement. Their eyes got big and
they whooped it up like only a 3 and 4 year old kid would do. They looked like
madmen. Their expressions were worth the trip and the sugar rush that they
would get later.
The new store isn’t
like the old store. It has lost some of its ambience but it still evokes a lot
of good memories.
It definitely is worth
a trip to the store with your children or grandchildren.
For me…I saw at first-hand
what it was like to unleash my grandchildren. They were like the saying goes…Children
in a Candy Store! And so was I, as I filled a number of plastic bands with some
good old memories!!!
